Arabic calligraphy or the art of Islamic calligraphy is a handwritten art that has been growing for a long time in Aceh.The history of Aceh's cultural glory, it can be said, is marked by the rapid progress in this field of art.
This art in Aceh's past can be found in various writing media that have existed since ancient times such as manuscripts, tombstones, woodwork, textiles, and tools of gold and metal. Therefore, it is natural that this art continues until modern times and today.
Presentation of this art, now, is more dominant in the building of mosques, in particular, on the interior, as a beautiful decoration and to give the impression of peace.
One of the places where this art has been presented so dazzlingly is in a grand mosque in Jantho City, the capital of Aceh Besar. The artist has chosen bright colors that appeal, for his calligraphy with various ornaments, as seen on the inside of the mosque's dome. Arabic calligraphy sounds holy verses of the Qur'an.
