Meet @brandyb, First Minnow Adoption Going Well.

During the CryptoKitty craze, I imagined it would be fun to watch a minnow grow change and develop.  It would be even cooler to add graphic art to the project.    Kudos to those who launched, bought and are enjoying the cryptokitties craze.  Hats off to the success.

So, anyhow I have adopted a minnow.  (She is really great and her name is @brandyb, you should follow her)

My quest to Adopt a minnow started here:

@whatsup/my-co-dependent-adopt-a-minnow-plan

After advertising, reviewing and vetting I selected @brandyb, she is the best minnow ever and I certainly hope you have the ability to see that about her.   Even if you didn't though, it is my job to get her attention, it is her job to make the best of having a bit more visibility.

I will..   Not just adopt, but take an unnatural, over-involved interest in her Minnow's life.  Until I grow bored of her and she is left to survive on her own.  (About a month)  @whatsup

Imagine the creative content that would be produced by minnows if larger users auditioning new-users?

I encourage minnows to make a creative post about being adopted by a dolphin or a whale, the spirit should be fun and entertaining vs. needy.

Dolphins and Whales consider picking a young account and help them out a bit.  Consider it "Paying it Forward".  The benefits to you are

  • Something to write about - and the earnings that come with that.
  • New friends, interesting social engagement
  • Ability to shape the culture by selecting accounts that create the type of content you like.

Ideas that "spawned" from this:

A Project where we sell and trade minnows (or other items)!  They would have to work hard to create an awesome "Why Adopt Me Posts" and the best content creators would be revealed.

For Larger Minnows, Dolphins and Whales, it would be a great place to see the creativity and commitment of new users, but mostly actually encourage "Attention Grabbing Content".

It could also serve as a mentoring and support program as we all know there is a lot to learn when you come on-board.  It would raise the standard of helping minnow to those who are truly good at content creation vs. purchasing votes on whatever content one puts out there.

It does not create an unhealthy dependency, because the idea is that you would support and protect them as minnows, as well as assist as needed.  They have a short time to learn the ropes and then the goal is to create a healthy, self-sustaining minnow who does not require joining a club or group.  (kind of like parenting)

Hmm.  It could add just one more way to notice minnows and make the Blogging Community Fun.

(If you don't like minnows this is also a great way to launch your Sock-Puppet!) - calm down, I am kidding.

What do you think?  Would you consider getting adopted or adopting?

I know it is a lofty goal, but it would be cool to have a "market place" that minnows presented themselves and larger accounts shopped.  :)

Maybe results page, who's minnows do the best, which minnows made the most of the opportunity in the "Hall of Blame".

PS.  Check out @brandyb - She will have to update us on how this is going for her.  From my standpoint it has been pretty fun and entertaining.
