Geocaching with Bitcoin: The Takara App for iOS

Geocaching with Bitcoin!? No way!

Yep. Yes way. I am almost reticent to share this because I love this app so much and kind of like not many people knowing about it. That said, the developer, an indie software company called Mandel Duck, is a really neat and creative group and I want to share their creation with others because it is not only fun (see Pokemon GO!) but is lucrative, and that users can pick up **ACTUAL BTC/MONEY **while playing.

How does it work?

Takara utilizes your phone's location services to display treasure chests, coins, and cards which have been dropped all over the world. To pick up the goodies, simply go to the location, answer a fun and quirky riddle or question (for example, "what is the name of the head chef at this restaurant?"), and collect! I went to a well-known neighborhood in Tokyo, and had to answer that it was a Yoda doll that was in a certain bar where the BTC had been dropped. Use the force. Get the money.

Takara can send money out to any wallet, and is also set up to be directly linked to Breadwallet.

To drop BTC, a user simply selects the amount they wish to drop, and then...drops it. The pick-up can be protected with a security question in order to prevent GPS "spoofing" ( a process whereby hackers not at the location can fake their position and claim the BTC) and also to make the game fun, or to advertise for a business in the area.

I have corresponded with the developers a bit, and have made two videos on the topic, which you can view here:

Cheers, and happy hunting.
