It is still Mother's Day Month, and for that reason (I had to dig deep for this one) I will share photos of my favorite wild mother! lol ;)
Before we meet the mother, I will introduce you to the brood (FYI. a group of ducklings is called a brood).
This super mamma was taking care of TEN ducklings (I hope she was ducksitting some at least, ugh).
Meet the Duck Mallard Mamma of the year (because taking care of 10 offspring should earn you that tittle)!
These little ducklings are not easy to deal with, but they are SO DARN ADORABLE <3
They are like little mud filters sinking their bills (beaks) into the water/mud to eat small insects and vegetation.
These little ducklings were able to swim right after turning one day old! They truly are like ducks in water ;)
Mamma duck keeps a watchful eye on these little mud loving fluffies.
She makes sure that they follow her, and watches out for any dangers, such as a person with a camera trying to get a closer photo to post on steemit...
Needles to say, Mamma Duck takes her safety and security job very seriously and did not allow me to get any closer for better shots xD
She also shows the ducklings how to look for food in the muddy water (yikes).
Ducklings are excellent swimmers.
Not so great at running though, at least not yet...
This duckling might have just face planted, but perhaps he was trying to look for some snack deep in the mud (I might use this one when I fall too).
It was late in the afternoon when I took these photos.
I learned the hard way to go get my photos early.
I had a bit of a hard time getting decent photos since neither the ducklings nor the sunlight were cooperating.
It was specially difficult to not move while mosquitoes were making me into their hot and ready dinner meal x(
It was worth it though, I just loved watching this duck family have fun eating the insects that were eating me (Ha! karma is a hungry duck/duckling!).
Notice all the little bubbles forming on the water surface.
It seems that these ducklings are serious bubble makers xD
These ducklings will learn all about being a grown up duck from their mamma and peers.
She will teach them everything there is to know about a duck's life ;)
They will learn what to eat, where to go, and dangers to avoid.
With a little luck and mamma's care, they will all grow up to be handsome mallard ducks one day.
THANK YOU for taking the time to look at my post! I hope you enjoyed the photos <3
