Doggy Swimming lessons

Happy Monday Everyone.
My entry for today's #animalphotography is "Doggie Swimming lessons" a contest by @juliank

It's the middle of summer here in Spain and very hot. We all like to cool off in the pool including our dog "Lucky".

Lucky joined our family 2 years ago as a pup. The first thing we did was throw her in the pool, I know this sounds cruel but firstly we needed to see if she could swim and secondly and most importantly she had to learn where the steps were. Dogs often fall in pools when owners are out. They then try to get out where they fell in. Dogs can not pull themselves out of the side of a swimming pool. They will keep trying until they are exhausted, pass out and drown.

If a dog knows where the stairs are, he will simply swim to them and climb out.
We have always allowed our dogs in our pool at home, so they know where to get in and out. I know it's not everyone's choice to allow a dog in a swimming pool but if you do have one, make sure your dog can swim, (some breeds are useless swimmers) and more importantly make sure he knows where to get.

Here's to a happy summer.
