When I was travelling in India I saw fireflies for the first time in my life. At first I didn't understand what it was. Multiple blinking dots were creating a light show in the dark. My mind needed some time to look through available information and find what could that be. My first suggestion was that those are some small extraterrestrial visitors ) But then I realized — it's fireflies! Before meeting them in nature, for more than 20 years of my life I thought that the abilities of fireflies are exaggerated, creating a fanciful myth. Turned out that they are indeed glowing as if they have bright light-emitting diodes in their bodies.
I was so amazed like a child.
Later in India I saw a firefly in form of caterpillar. And this inspired me to draw an illustration called "Firefly's granny".
But my entomological revelations didn't stop there. During the same journey, later on hiking in the Himalayas at 3500 m height, almost at the snow line, I encountered a colony of ladybugs. There were millions of them. It is a mystery to me why were they gathering so high in the mountains. I couldn't stop myself from making a photo of one of the rocks covered with small guests:
Later I have created an illustration with ladybug as well.
I seldom make purely digital drawings. But those two are absolutely digital vector art.
I liked that because of cartoonish style the caterpillar in the picture does not cause aversion, that people often have for insects.
Vector illustrations are good because they can be used for print of absolutely any size without loss of quality. Well, a giant poster with bugs appears quite useless to me, however, they would fit well for some decorative postcards.
For this goal I decided to make script for illustration with firefly's granny. I am not master of calligraphy, but I wanted to make lettering by hands, so I wrote words in some variants and scanned this paper:

Never mind the plant sketch, it is not related to this work, I just used for writing the old sheet of paper :)
One of the script variants I converted to vector format and after that it can be placed on postcard template. At that I finished playing with the illustrations for now.
