Last week I visited the Edinburgh Assay Office to drop off the 100g Silver Forum Bars.
Amazingly it works out cheaper to fly up with them as hand luggage than it is to post them!
Anyway - going through Airport security was an interesting experience!
I got pulled over - I was expecting this as the box of these 100g bars showed up as a giant block of solid dense material.
Anyway - when asked to open the bag/box to show the contents I said I would like a private room which they were happy to do, but I had to wait 10 minutes for them to get a supervisor to come with me. I also requested that there be two people in the room to do the examination so that I had additional witnesses in case anything went missing!
Needless to say the airport security staff were pretty speechless when I opened up the box containing nearly 17kg worth of silver bullion bars! They were incredibly interested and complimentary about the bars and the product and they were very understanding of the private room and need for an additional person! They even asked if I wanted them to arrange security to escort me to my gate, but I politely declined - that would just draw more attention to myself!
So the long shot of it is they were absolutely fine with me travelling with the bullion bars - none of them are sharp, or dangerous so it was all good!
On the return flight I had a box that I picked up from the Assay Office and a similar situation happened - the nice ladies I met at this end were equally as fascinated and they both ended up asking for my business cards so they could check out my website!
One of them told me a story about a gentleman flying out of Heathrow (about 5 years ago) who had nearly 10kg of 100g GOLD bars - he was flying to Dubai - now that is some serious bling bling in your hand luggage!
I have a VLOG of my trip to Edinburgh scheduled to go live at 2pm today so I will post a link here when it is ready!
