Drawing hair can often be very difficult. They are so different just like in real life and sometimes it can go very good or very bad. A lot of people are struggling with that, especially those who are just starting to learn how to draw.
Some people think that it is easier to draw a man's hair, but i actually don't know if it is true. I have had portraits where i had to spend more time drawing man's hair. This portrait below was one of them. I have photos focusing just on hat part.
As you can see i am drawing hair step by step. I star with lighter pencils and lighter strokes, and develop it slowly step by step.
You really have to focus on shading, midotnes, texture and highlights. You can not just color the whole space equally as i have seen some people do, so it looks very far from realistic. I have been struggling with drawing hair myself too Sometime it can be extremely hard for me too, so i am spending hours upon hours even to make something good looking at the end.
