Mixing Traditional Art and Digital Art with my concept art: step by step process

Hello Steemians! Happy to share my latest art. Its my first time to ever mix traditional with digital since i just started this month with digital art. Here is my art!

Title: Between Good and Bad
Mixed media: colored pencils, pen and ink and paperone drawing app and stylus on my phone

The concept:

  • This is related to drug use and drug addiction

  • i used my own face to make it more interesting
and since its my art and my perspective, why not? 🤗

  • the halo on her head gives her a holy/saintly appearance but what i want to imply by this is that:
    a. Some people we know to be good arent really good. Some people pretend to be innocent when in fact guilty.

     i. Here in the Philippines there is a drug war which is causing a lot of controversy. Some unjust killings happen. Drug lords killing each other. Planting evidence to distract the media/police.
ii. Drug users hide behind the "extra judicial killings" excuse to look oppressed, as well as human rights but it doesn't erase their crimes. It makes them look innocent while the people and media are distracted, they carry on with their evil intentions.

    b. There are the three happy drugs on the halo which is less dangerous than cigarettes and liquor. These are natural and have medicinal use.
    i. Marijuana
    ii. LSD
    iii. Ecstasy

But this doesnt make substance abuse okay. This is an invitation to a possible addiction to synthetic drugs that completely destroy someones sanity and physical state.

For example:
1. Metamphetamine
2. Krokodil
3. Phentanyl citrate
4. Flakka
5. Cocaine

  • the dove and the crow are good and bad decisions.

  • the sniper symbolizes a person's will. Also, that one decision to kill either of the two. And we all know what happens after choosing bad.

  • The space background, i used to make it more like a universe effect because this drug problem is growing and affects us all.

Here are the work in progress pics.

For traditional art i used colored pencils and uni pen with a point of 0.5
I used a mechanical pencil to draw my sketch and plainly inked it and colored the halo with gold and silver and psychedelic colors.

Then color the lilies, added the dove and crow and shade in some grey on the face

Add highlights with white inked pen
Also, the sparkles on the eye.

Then a colorful abstract sort of colors and shapes for her clothing

And up till now this piece looks like this. To finish it quick I made the rest digitally.

The digital process:

Light to dark process
Grey yellow violet blue pink orange bluegreen black.

I continually put patches of colors
Blend, highlight, and darken until i get the desired effect.

You can easily create a glowing effect by using the faded spray paint effect

Put yellow orange blue white dots for stars

And the crayon effect purple blue and white to create a starry texture and a galaxy light effect.
