Ever since I was a child the concept of being able to freeze time has fascinated me. If we could freeze time we could stop disasters, lengthen moments of joy, or take time to make the best decisions possible.
One of the inspirations for these daydreams was the late 80's television show Out Of This World. It was about a young girl who's father is an alien and when she turns 12 (or 13? my memory is a bit foggy here) she finds out that she has special powers and one of them is freezing time. Does anyone else remember this show? Here's the intro:
Once I got a little older I snapped out of these musings and accepted the fact that freezing time as far as we know is impossible. I let it go.
Lately though I have come to a realization that we can freeze time through a particular type of magic... art! Every piece of art that is created encapsulates a thought, an emotion, a fear etc. that we had during it's creation, and when viewing, allows us a small opening in which to enter someone else's ideas and emotions for a brief period of time.
When working on this piece for @everlove's collaborative art journey, as usual I take her invitation to play quite seriously and use this as unstructured art time for exploring. I took the original image and layered and distorted it multiple times and gazed at it as though gazing at clouds until a concept emerged. What I had created looked somewhat like a banana split in a fancy dish. Since the theme was frozen in time I decided it must be fate and made it so :)
Here is the original image we were given to play with:
