$43.8MIllion PAINTING! My Non Artistic View On Why It's Worth It

I've never seen myself as an art person, but I think this piece is well worth its price and I’ll tell you why. People are shocked when they hear about Onement VI and its price of $43,800,000 USD.

From the first look there is not much to see beside a simple white streak and a blue background. So how come something so simple worth so much?! I’ll give you 3 elements plus an example from the crypto-world to hopefully make you see what I see.

1) Fuel: A Need For Change

The first question that comes to mind is who the hell would buy that?! It has no visual complexity, no meaningful message, and it’s not a very difficult painting to do.

That's in fact what abstract art is all about. It doesn’t have to have a meaning, goal , or representation to anything. It's the emotional effect that counts.

The abstract art movement started in the end of 19th century because artists felt the need for something new and different. They began breaking rules and traditions in paintings. Some painting look unfinished, some look simple and strange, others look like nothing you can understand.

2) Heat: Love & Hate

This history is what made Onement VI an interesting piece when it came out after WWII. It also broke all rules and started a new type of art called the Zip. In the beginning it was seen as something strange but now the artist is seen as a major figure.

So It’s okay if you don't appreciate it or understand it. Abstract paintings always get extremely opposite reactions, some people love them while others hate them and this is what generates heat and controversy.

3) Air: Emotions

Viewing crypto as a form of art is something unusual but art and money have one thing in common, they both are of an emotional value. It’s emotions that drive prices up and down. it’s emotions that make paintings more valuable than others. if you separate emotions their value would suffocate.

For instance Bitcoin started with a little spark in the right place and time. Slowly, people's emotional investments grew, and now you are not just seeing the spark, you are seeing the huge fire that never stops growing.

While there are far better blockchain technologies that are faster, cheaper, and more innovative, not all of them will survive. Similarly, there are much better abstract artists who are able to produce better work but they aren’t going to be as recognised and valued because they lack the flow of emotional investment.

It’s the combination of heat, air and fuel that makes up a fire.

Onement VI is a forest fire that started with a small match, you look at that match baffled by its insignificance ...
You are not questioning the price anymore because you sure are feeling the heat.
