It really is a canvas stretched to that shape..
This is one of the more ambitious painting shapes that I made in the first few years of pushing the boundaries with the inner architecture of the canvas.
The original painting is approximately 3 x 6 ft, and it required a lot of bracing (not pictured) to stabilize the frame and keep it from warping. The painting itself was inspired by a particularly epic sunset at the Grand Canyon in 2008..
The painting is more representative of the feeling of the moment than what it actually looked like...
