Classical approaches to draftsmanship are gaining momentum and popularity once again after long stretches of being nearly lost, obscure traditions. These legacies continue to instruct students in exactly the same fashion that has been handed down since the 1800s.

I was fortunate to spend a few years studying in this rigorous tradition, ultimately to bring the traditional skills into a modern context through my own creative work. In the atelier tradition, drawings are done first as copes from master drawings, then eventually to casts and then live models. Perfection is demanded down to a fraction of a millimeter.

This is some of the best training I could imagine..my mentors called it artistic boot camp, as it is ultimately not about creativity whatsoever, but faithful reproduction of the subject..
So grateful to have gone through it, and I highly recommend atelier studies to other artists!
