🔹 Travel to the city of glass - Novy Bor in Czech republic + my glass work

Hello friends, today I would like to share with you my trip to Novy Bor. As a student of glass design I went to an internship to this beautiful town in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic with my classmates.

I had to learn some new techniques of painting on glass and also glass cutting and grinding. We also visited museums, glass school and some work shops in Novy Bor and also Kamenicky Senov, which is near this famous town. It is known also for its unique geological location called Panska skala (Herrnhausfelsen). It was a pitty the weather was so bad for the time we have been here, so I don´t have any photos from this place. But here is a photo my friend made when she was there lately.

... and also some closer look.

It was Kamenicky Senov where we visited Glassicenter company and worked there for two weeks. The company makes chandeliers, painted vases, stained glass and grinded glass too.

This region is perfect for all lepole who love art. You can visit a restaurant in which you can look at glass blowing behind of a big window and still enjoy your tea or food.

This is a photo from their website:

A part of the building is also a gallery.

In Novy bor you can also visit a glass museum. it is a two floor building with a high roof and a rich baroque entrance portal. This type of houses is typical for this town. The museum shows glass in historical periods to the present and changes exhibitions of many artists.

In Europe and America people prefer simple glass, with a simple decoration or none. You can still buy traditional glass of this region which is mostly exported to eastern countries. It is full of ornaments and colors. There are also many ways of decorating. And one piece may contain up to seven layers of paint, gold or high enamel. Every layer has its own burning process, which takes almost a day.

Here are the results. All painted by hand.

This big vases are painted with Egermanns red glaze which is created after 3 burnings in a furnance if I remember it right :) The decoration is then engraved with a small discs. It is really a hard work when weconsider the size of the vase.

Here are the results of my work.

The first one is a vase made of cobalt glass which I painted with this simple flower pattern.

Then I grinded this two tumblers. They are made of clear and colored glass. The first layer is removed thanks to grinding discs and polished with cerium oxide.
