It's not too difficult to see where the inspiration came from for this piece. I stared at my blank sheet of graph paper for about 2 days thinking about my friend and the phoenix. Though I don't recall her ever sharing WHY her username is @phoenixmaid, I'm going to share my interpretation.
The symbolism of the phoenix is one of magic, transformation, creativity, life, and rebirth to name a few.
The phoenix bursts into flames upon death, and from the ashes it rises anew. From what I've read, it is cross-cultural and timeless. - a symbol of clarity and protection.
I know my friend has gone through, and continues to fly above adversity. And while she's never lost her temper in my presence, I'm sure, like the phoenix bursting into flame, she's probably a sight to behold when she blows up! LOL
Ever protective of her family and friends, she'll shred anyone to defend her loved ones. Creative and giving, she is the single reason why I've joined #Steemit -- and I am ever so grateful.
She is a beautiful phoenix in my eyes.
So without throwing out details about her which is not my place to share, perhaps Sarah will tell us the story behind her username one day?
- #nameinlights is an initiative started by @williambanks to highlight our followers in a positive way and friend-it-forward, building our audience and Steemit friends in a very organic way.
Yup. It took about two days of staring and one day of sketching to figure out how I was going to pull this off.
I began with a large, top-heavy 8 to get the curve of the wings and shape of the body.
Then more staring until I figured out how to create the head and tail feathers. There was a lot of erasing.
And after a little shading using some color pencils that don't color very well...I posed with the final piece!
