When I painted this I remember I was in a bit of a slump in terms of being productive about creating. In times like that I tend to do studies. I'll either go outside and paint something or if I can find a photographic reference that has something that I want to capture I'll go for that.
In this painting I was looking to capture and enhance the overall lighting and mood. I was trying to get it to feel like a wet misty forest without rendering out a ton of detail, and more going for an impressionistic feel.
On closer inspection the details are still pretty abstract and that's something that I try to maintain in a lot of my work. I'm heavily influenced by impressionistic painters and I've always loved that quality where a painting looks realistic from far away and abstract up close.
Thanks for looking!
