Some Art pieces from Mexican Culture

This is something very fascinating that I saw for the first time in my life. I have never seen such art work on bottles and glasses. My son got this for our home from Mexico and it is so very unique.

The bottle has a face of a Mexican Shaman on it. This is handcrafted out of resin. On the front side is the Shaman warrior and the back side of the bottle it is the Sun God design. I was reading the history of it and it says that they had 5 Sun Gods. There were 5 ages, or 5 suns and each of these ages or sun had a different sun god, and each age ended in disaster. There is a lot more to their history and it is very interesting. I had never tapped in this part of the world but now I am curious to know more about it.

If you see in this there is a face of a hawk and within it there is a face of a Shaman and on the back side you see the Sun God.

A shot glass, again with the shaman on it. Shamans are the traditional native healers in the region. They basically work with herbs and water and also at times play flute for healing. Their healing is not only limited to physical level but also at a mental, emotional and spiritual level. They are also known as witch doctor's by some.

This is the Sun God calendar also known as the Aztec Sun God. In this image you see a face in the center which represents the image of the god Tonatiuh. The 2 hands on the sides shows holding a human heart, and the tongue which is represented by a flint, which indicates that a sacrifice was required so that the sun would continue its movement in the sky. This calendar represents 5 days of the week, 20 days a month and 260 days a year, I am not sure how this calculation goes but the calculation in that time did go as such. There are many symbols also on it with each one having it's own unique meaning. Like I could just interpret that there is serpent also in the calendar which means that they would transport the sun god in his daily passage through the sky. Quite interesting, right?

It is always good to know, history, culture, traditions from other parts of the world. I am quite keen of learning more about them now.
