A Collaborative Art Journey with @everlove
As soon as I saw @everlove's image for this week's Collaborative Art Journey " SPOT ON" No. 28 it reminded me of Katsushika Hokusai's famous print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The print was the first in Hokusai's series 36 Views of Mount Fuji.
The black ink in the background of @everlove's image " SPOT ON " made me think of Hokusai's depiction of Mount Fuji, and the blue seemed like a good match to the blue waves of Hokusai's print. The ink sprayed across the page in ''SPOT ON'' reminded me of the spray of the ocean waves.
I didn't want to make too many adjustments to @everlove's image as I like the rawness of the splatter marks and brush strokes. I decided to work digitally to smear the blue paint to create the shape of the wave, doing this in layers in order to create an animation later in the process.
The next stage was to add an ink sketch I had hand drawn of a boat. I used the boats in Hokusai's print as inspiration for the shape of my boat and figures. I scanned the drawing of the boat and digitally added the blue colour to the figures.
Finally, I layered the boats and the waves together to create a short animation of the boat being thrown around by the waves.
