I would like to thank @juliakponsford first for the realization of these contests that allows us to break our comfort zones in painting and discover limits that we did not know about ourselves. I wanted to accept this challenge because I had never painted a marine character only a seahorse a long time ago and well I wanted to create a KRAKEN this morning, giving it my touch @oscurity. ENJOY THE PROCESS .....

PAINTING WITH CHALKS / PINTANDO CON TIZAS
First of all start making a quick sketch with the digital pen, I take about 15 minutes then I select the pastel chalks I adjust the parameters and start to paint my sketch.
To achieve a more realistic painting with chalk I must configure the brush parameter from its size to its opacity, I proceed to paint little by little my kraken and go giving details.
I try not to be very precise with my techniques to maintain my originality within the network, but I will reveal a secret to a clear finish with pastel chalks, then I make a line, there are always grain marks because the chalk is somewhat coarse, What I do is with the diffuser remove those grains and achieve a more subtle effect you can see in the box.
REPERTOIRE OF TEXTURES / REPERTORIO DE TEXTURAS
The textures are crucial in the painting, if you have a digital tablet you can create them yourself but in my case I use the mouse I must create the textures as sheets of paper so the process is a bit more complicated, these are the ones that I use the most for my kraken.
WHERE DOES MY INSPIRATION COME FROM? / DE DONDE VIENE MI INSPIRACIÓN
OILS APPLICATION / APLICACIÓN DE OILS
Most of the concept designers use the oils, because it gives a tremendous realism in the paintings, because they highlight the light and give a unique skin appearance, in this image I show you a transition between the chalk and the oils you can observe the side left the strokes of the chalk and on the right the oils with the textures.
After four hours of work our kraken begins to take shape, it was quite difficult to make it take the form of octopus I think the key to it was the oval head and the eyes with horizontal irises.
CONFIGURING THE LIGHT / CONFIGURANDO LA LUZ
for light use the following configuration that you see in the image, a white light that is projected in the center of the painting.
DETAILS OF PAINTING
An enlarged view of my painting shows details that escape when you look at it from a distance, the teeth, the blood, the texture of the skin and details of eyes, all this repertoire was highlighted in my painting.
THE KRAKEN
The kraken figure in the mythology nordica, its history is about a huge squid that sank the boats of fishermen and warriors, the story says that the kraken was circling around the boats to create a whirlwind which destroyed the ships, and therefore then I was going to humans ... I wanted to get out a little about the concept of that typical octopus of long tentacles and create something fearsome, without a doubt this was the image that came to mind in the nordicos ... A TRUE DEMON OF THE SEA ...
