Music Around Us Project (Episode IV)

Quack

There is music around all around us. This series features an element of everyday life and how it can inspire a soundscape.

Quack

This episode features ducks floating down a stream at the Olympic National Park. As each duck passes the branch on the right, they trigger wind instruments to sound (oboe, English horn, clarinet, piano).

It is really interesting to see how something out of your control can be a contributing factor in the piece of music you create. The ducks did a nice job, I just told them what chords to play and they set their own pacing to do so. Seems like a pretty magnificent piece they were able to do.

Aleatoric

The ducks generate an aleatoric composition.

“Aleatoric music (also aleatory music or chance music; from the Latin word alea, meaning "dice") is music in which some element of the composition is left to chance, and/or some primary element of a composed work's realization is left to the determination of its performer(s).” - Wikipedia

Steemians! Please let me know where you see music around you, and feel free to follow and repost if you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for upcoming episodes!
