"The Screaming Beauty That Crochet Brings"

A Filipino's creativity always stays on top!

Some people are born to be talented; some are intelegent; and some are made to be creative. This means that we are all amazingly created by God in such different unique ways. But most of us do not really give honor and recognition to those people who make our world more colorful and brighter. So today let me share something that made me felt more alive yesterday.

It was so hot and the sun was at its peak during our visit at Tamiya, Basak, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday with my best buddy. Tamiya is not a place with white sand beaches and resorts that we all look forward to whenever these months of the year come: SUMMER, but rather a huge place for those who want to enjoy and to have fun as well as to do some shopping. There are many stores and outlets for branded products placed at this park; restaurants that are the go-to-places of people who love good foods; and it doesn't stop there for the reason that it is also filled with companies that helps our economy grow.

One of the famous areas of this place is their little plaza located at the front of some sports wear outlets. When we decided to walk through that plaza, we found some amazing and creative art creations. Those are not the typical arts we use to do such as drawings and paintings but what I am trying to share is one of the best traditional arts of Filipinos which is the crochet making.

What is crochet?

So before we delve into the amazing arts found in the plaza, let us first know what crochet is and how to create this kind of product.

According to dictionary: "Crochet is a method of making clothes and other desired form of object with the use of needles with a hook at the end to form and weave loops in a thread."

So to be exact, it is made by using needles and threads. What I am trying to emphasize about those threads are not the one we commonly use in the clothes we usually wear but those are what we call as stitches like yarns.

However, crochet making was originated in Europe during 19th century. But most people believe that crochet is a craft practiced by various of people around the world. One country that practices more about this creation is the Philippines, which was introduced decades ago. To make the story short, Filipinos began to have an interest of making crochet craft and become their traditional art. In addition, crochet have been sold through inside and outside the country.

Witnessing the process of making Crochet Craft

As we were about to enjoy our day together with my hubby, we saw this group of people that are very busy doing something. We were curious about what they were doing, so we came closer to those people and watched them while they were doing crafts. At first, we didn't know what they were doing. I just stood still while listening to one of their members explaining to us what a crochet craft is. Since I was at my younger years, my mother made some dresses for me that were created out from yarns. So yesterday, I figured out that the best word to describe what my mother did in the past is crochet. Sadly, my mother became too busy to continue what she loved so she stopped and never made crochet crafts anymore. I just missed those days huhu. Anyways if we take a look at those crafts we cannot deny how stunning it is to see a place full of colorful handcrafts by these beautiful and creative members of Cebu Crochet Group.

My boyfriend and I took a tour around the place and one by one, we took some pictures of their finished crochet crafts. It was so funny seeing the light post decorated with cute and colorful crochets. They decorated each light post that sorrounds the tiny plaza. As what you can see in the pictures, they seem to make the most out of the tiny plaza.
We continued our tour around the place and this time, what cought our attention was the entertaining decorations we found that were placed on every chair. They made different designs for each chairs with different colors. And it made the chairs better to sit on and more relaxing to lean on.

Some of the most stunning and amazing crochet design they made were the crafts that were put on the trunks of the trees. There were three huge trees in the place and they are all filled with colorful crochet crafts. How pleasant it is to witness a very beautiful tree.

They made different designs for each tree. One of the huge trees was filled with amazing flowers that are circular in shape with variety of colors.

The other tree was filled with vertical designs also comes with the variety of colors. They formed it like a mat with zigzag designs.

While the third tree was filled with different shapes like the stars, square, diamond, rectangle and other shapes layouted.

One of their members noticed us taking pictures while they were busy doing those crafts. She asked,

Were the crafts so beautiful and stunning?

I answered:

Very beautiful ma'am, you guys made our day collorful. By the way, from what place did you all came from?

She then answered me,

Actually we are from San Fernando, Cebu and we just have our visit here in Lapu-Lapu because we were invited by the owner of this place to beautify and to colorfy the plaza.

She then added:

By the way pretty girl, if you want to share the photos you have pictured already please don't forget to put #cebucrochetgroup with matching smile in her face.

I then gladly accepted what she told me.

I was so blessed this day after seeing these beautiful creations by my co-Filipino citizens. I was so happy enduring our time with my boyfriend. I felt relaxed after witnessing the beautiful and colorful crochet crafts. This is a great talent, isn't it? So if you love this kind of art and knows a place, please drop a comment and give me some tips on where to find some other places filled with crochet. This reminds me so much of my past. I'll be thankful then.
