인터넷 둘러보니 다들 안경선배만 올리시길래 나름 틈새 시장을 노려봤습니다.
왜 올림픽 다 끝나고 올렸나구요? 사정이 매우 길지만 일단 완성본 먼저 봐주세요.
I painted Young-mi Kim, the lead of the Korea national curling team, in commemoration of this winter Olympic Games.
There was a lot of trouble in the painting process.

사실은 컬러까지 진작에 다 그려놨다가 다 엎느라 완성시키는데 오래 걸렸습니다.
오늘은 중간중간에 왜 그렇게 그렸는지 삽질의 역사가 함께 해설됩니다.

올림픽 시즌이라 참고자료도 많고 스케치는 수월했습니다.
영미님 포지션상 가장 많이 사진에 찍힌 포즈입니다.
긴장하면 살짝 내려가는 눈썹이 매력있네요.
I was able to get many reference pictures because of the Olympic season.

이번엔 잉크펜 느낌으로 선따기 작업을 했습니다.
This time I did a line work with a G-pen brush.

I did the line work with my favorite Old School comics style.
I hope someday this style will be popular again.
color work-first time (Here comes Trouble!)
수채물감으로 밑색을 깔고 마른 펠트팀 마커로 마무리한 느낌으로 작업한 버전입니다.
I was working with the iPad and an Apple pencil, but I wanted to feel like working on a piece of paper with a dry felt tip marker.

여기부터 딜레마가 생기기 시작했습니다.
선작업을 고전적인 (섀도우=블랙, 미드톤=라인해칭, 하일라이트=비워두기) 방식으로 진행했는데 이중에 섀도우를 블랙으로 준 점, 미드톤을 얇은 선 해칭으로 처리한 부분이 컬러작업과 맞지 않았습니다.
그림자가 검은색이라서 거기에 맞춰서 미드톤을 넣다보니 색이 전체적으로 무거워지게 된 것입니다.
Here is a dilemma.
Because the shadows were drawn in black, I had to use heavy colors in order to naturally connect with the midtones.
I want to feel a little lighter in the output.
color- Change Line Color
단순하게 선을 블랙으로 쓴게 문제라고 보고 다양한 방식으로 선의 느낌을 바꿔봅니다.
Let's solve the problem by changing the color of the line.
except midtones
해칭으로 처리한 미드톤 부분을 날려버리고 색을 푸른계통으로 바꿔봤습니다.
I removed the midtones drawn by line hatching and changed the color of the shadows to bright.

뭔가 가벼워지기는 했는데 이건 아니네요.
Although it was getting lighter, the problem was not solved.
gray line
선의 채도를 빼봤습니다.
I painted the line in gray.

너무 번져보입니다.
It seems too diffuse.
brown line
채도를 살리면서 무거운 느낌만 빼봤습니다.
Let's try using brown color.

오! 나름 괜찮습니다.
그런데 검정색을 기준으로 딸려올라간 컬러들 때문에 여전히 그림이 무겁네요.
그냥 새로 칠합시다.
It is good.
But it is still heavy.
Because the other colors were painted based on black.

새마음 새뜻으로 이번엔 상큼하게 가보겠습니다.
선이 가벼워졌으니 색도 가벼워져야겠죠.
수채물감이 말랐을 때 경계선 생기는 느낌을 이용해서 색을 2분할했습니다.

이건 또 너무 가볍네요.

한톤 더 올려서 3분할로 채색해봤습니다.
I added a shadow to divide the color into three levels.

나쁘진 않은데 색이 단조롭네요.
It's not bad, but the color used is boring.

레이어를 추가해서 색을 좀 흔들어서 칠해줍니다.
하는 김에 디테일도 좀 추가해줬습니다.
Add a layer to work with a different touch and color than the bottom layer.

다 좋은데 약간 인상이 흐린 점, 하일라이트 부분에 선의 존재감이 뚜렷한 점이 마음에 안듭니다.
This is good. But it needs emphasis. I also want to fix colored highlights.

선의 색도 다 분할해 줍시다. 진작 이럴걸 그랬네요.

그래도 그럭저럭 볼만한 물건이 나왔습니다.
모든 작업은 아이패드 프로에서 procreate와 clipstudioEX를 사용해서 이루어졌습니다.

It was worth it.
