We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
So if you weren't aware, I've been streaming on Twitch for quite some time now and it's been fun trying out new games and making new friends in chat and with other streamers too! I started playing Genshin Impact and it basically kickstarted my streaming "career" of sorts. I've met so many people through this game and it's probably not an exaggeration to say it basically changed my life.
Anyway, Twitch affiliates get the benefit of having channel points and redemptions that chat can trigger if they have enough channel points. And since I'm an artist I thought I'd reward my loyal viewers who have amassed a ton of points with some free artwork! Anything of their choosing, provided its SFW since I will be drawing it on stream and getting their feedback live! So I put in a channel redemption for free art from me for 100K points! It seemed like an impossible number at the time, but now my moderators have hoarded so much points it's insane.
I have since changed the price of the free artwork since there were so many redemptions the first month or so since I implemented it.
It took a while for someone to redeem it but eventually one of my streamer friends, Jess, was the first person to do it! And since she's also a streamer, she requested that I draw an emote for her and her exact words to me were, "Could you do a "believe" emote with Diluc and the word "believe"? The only one I've seen (I don't remember the channel so I can't find the picture) but it was a cat looking off to the side with its mouth open and the word believe.” Diluc is a character from Genshin Impact btw.
Right off the bat I knew this was going to be difficult since I didn't have a reference for what she wanted and I couldn't really understand what she was describing.. But I told her to at least draw it on paint so I would have something to refer to and err this is what she drew:
I mean, I guess I can kinda see what she's going for. I wish I could find the emote that she was thinking about though, but I got a rough idea and I set to work immediately! I decided a chibi version of Diluc would be best for an emote and did a few sketches and asked for her feedback. Here's a couple of my references for a Chibi Diluc:

When I did the sketch I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out since I wanted to maximise the 500x500px space since an emote will look quite small in chat. But the only downside is that his face will be very wide as a result.
I think it wouldn't have been so bad if not for the word but I couldn't cover his face with it and she specifically requested the word "Believe" so who was I to deny her? I tried my best to fit everything in nicely and make him look.. presentable and this was what I got:
I went with white text since I'm always on dark mode and I thought it would contrast the red and black outline better, but now that I think about it I'm not sure how this looks on light mode Twitch chat. But Jess didn't say anything so I guess she's fine with it? I probably should've done an outline of the letters in black though.

It took some time to get a suitable chibi head shape since I didn't have a template back then but this was a good start and it definitely took me out of my comfort zone a little bit since I've just been focused on drawing animals. I wasn't really sure about it but Jess said she loved it! It made me so glad to be able to help out a fellow streamer friend! I had a feeling all these redeems were going to challenge me and hopefully further my artistic skills!
