Last night, there was another radio show going on over at The Writer's Block's Discord server. Since painting along to "State of the Witness" with @anarcho-andrei and @swelker101 worked so well on Friday night, I decided to try it again last night to the hilarious yet soothing voices of @gmuxx and @swelker101 on "The Shane and Muxxy show" with special guest @crimsonclad.
So come radio time, I got out my brush, markers and paper, and got to painting.
Well colour me purple! It worked! Apparently, my mind has to be occupied elsewhere so my hand can paint without my head overthinking things.
I sketched in the outlines so lightly my camera couldn't focus on them, so my progress begins here.
I wanted to keep the edges of the petals very light and delicate so they only got a light, single layer this time.
The darker heart of the flower did get extra layering and it took me a while to get the intensity of the colour saturation just how I wanted it to be.
The two petals in the background did get a little bit of a blue layer underneath the purple, for a bit of depth.
This piece, with minimal layering and blending presented challenges of its own but I'm quite happy with the result. Could it be that I'm finally beginning to like my own work?
This was done with my trusty set of 12 watercolour markers in primary colours. I used a wet brush to dilute and fade the ink.
If you'd like to see more of my paintings, check out my Poppy and Tulip.
