Recently, for a new knowledge study, Mr L, one of my friend who offers me much ideas and make me more easily to understand those knowledge's which I never known before. Today, I have heard loves Owls very much, and then it made me interested in drawing an Owl as a gift to him.
I used to know the OWL is, it made Goo Goo Goo sounds at night, shaped eyes looks like two little shining suns and searching its prey in the dark with quickly movements to capture it. (I have known all from documentaries when I was a kid)

(以下資料來源:goole.com , zh-yue.wikipedia)
In order to understand the OWL well, I have browsed some of the related data on the Internet and found that the OWL has a different meaning in different places.(Below data from goole.com , zh-yue.wikipedia)
In China, people have "night owls into the House, something will be happened" and "not afraid of owls shouting, but afraid of OWL smile", all are ancient Chinese feeling of OWL. the OWL has been seen as "bird of bad luck", called by the soul killing bird, give obituary notice birds, even ancient books called it Devil, as a symbol of bad luck and death. The reason of it may due to the odd outlook of OWL and its two big and cycle eyes, bright glow, makes people was panic; two ear erect, seems the double angle monster in the myth, made ancient described its looks violent; the voice of OWL at night sounds like ghost, makes people more afraid of it, and the ancient called it as "horrible voice bird".
In ancient Greece, Greece mythology Athena, the goddess of wisdom and her loved birds is a small owl (OWL, is been known as to indicate the event), so ancient Greece people respect the OWL for Athena and a symbol of wisdom.

In Japan, the owls are known to be blessed bird, it also became the mascots of the Nagano Winter Olympics, represents good luck and happiness.

In Canada and Vancouver, Indian descendants still retain the OWL Totem dance, not only has a large carved OWL images, and dances. the dancers ' clothing is the owls pattern, and the whole body hang its kills mice.
The owl of Contradictory concepts has shown in many Literary works also, in Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Julius Caesar and The Macbeth plays shown that the owl's foretelling death; but in The Love's Labour's lost plays, the OWL sang "song of joy". As a literary metaphor, whatever in ancient mythology, or Hemingway and Milne's works, OWL can be found also.
I want to say thank you to him and with my Owls drawing, hum, its my first time to draw it, I am not sure if he will like it or not, hope my owl can sent my appreciation to him and he will love it, haha...
