Steem Basic Income
Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.
We have not had any requirement for members to upvote @steembasicincome posts, but we have given it careful consideration. Since all members benefit when any member upvotes the posts, it makes sense to provide additional benefit to those that do. It is still optional, and members that choose not to upvote will continue to receive their basic income, but members that choose to upvote will receive a bonus. Now voting weight will be adjusted upward for those that upvote.
Upvote @steembasicinome regularly to increase the basic income that you receive
Effective immediately, we will regularly review the upvotes that @steembasicincome receives. The members that upvote the most consistently can receive up to 100% increase in their voting weight. To use a brief example, @sevlom777 has three shares in the program, and has provided the greatest number of upvotes in the past 4 weeks - even more than the project manager! Because he has given 25 full upvotes, his voting weight will be increased by 100% (equivalent to having 6 shares instead of 3). If his average upvote were 90% instead, his basic income would only be increased by 90%. Another member with 20 full upvotes might receive an 80% increase (20/25 = 80%), but similarly if that member gave 90% upvotes, their voting weight would increase 72% (20/25 * .9 = 72%).
The maximum boost provided to any member is 100% given to the member with the most consistent upvoting record. Members with lower records receive boost based on their voting record relative to the most active upvoter. To get the best benefit, we recommend using steemvoter or something similar to not miss any update posts.
If you have any questions about this change, feel free to ask. The important thing is that you can receive significant additional reward for upvoting @steembasicincome regularly, but the penalty for not upvoting is minimal.
