Ninkasi Total Domination IPA: An Amateurish Beer Review

bottle

Strong? At 6.7% alcohol by volume, it's above average. Check.

Bitter? A hopped-up 81 international bitterness units. Check.

From the brewery website:

This decidedly balanced Northwest IPA celebrates our love of hops. A delightful blend of citrus and floral hop notes dominate the senses while a trio of malt adds a clean finish. Totally hoppy, totally drinkable; the name says it all.

Well, OK. It is hoppy, and there is a citrus bite to the flavor, and it is drinkable enough, but I remain unimpressed.

Like I said in the Firestone Union Jack IPA review, I am not generally a fan of the IPA type in general, but I could tell how that one was good, and this one impressed me less. It's OK, but not great. I wouldn't seek it out, but I don't think it was bad either. I tend to expect more from a microbrewery than this though. It's certainly better than mass market beers, but not good enough to stand apart from its microbrew competitors. There just didn't seem to be enough effort to balance the flavor profile, instead driving toward NORTHWEST HOPPY IPA trends.

Check out the Firestone Union Jack IPA instead.
