Nexus is the project of Colin Cantrell, who is the founder and lead developer.
Colin has an interesting background. He learned Visual Basic when he was 12. And he did an internship at age 16 with John Garvey at Garvey Spacecraft Corporation.
Colin’s original project was called Coinshield. The idea was give users a place to get some value for their shit coins and then Coinshield would dump those coins on the market and collect bitcoin. It eventually turned into Nexus, which is a fork of Peercoin.
Nexus is a decentralized blockchain that utilizes a hybrid PoS / PoW model.
It uses a three level library system which makes it fast to use. Per Colin the three main goals of Nexus is scalability, efficiency, and security.
Here’s a video with Colin on how Nexus works. I watched the video, I’m still not sure what Nexus does.
The ultimate goal of Nexus is to have a satellite mesh network out of the purvey of any state or nation. In other words, the blockchain in space. Basically, cube satellites in space will connect together and beam down to a decentralized system of nodes on the ground.
It may seem we’re getting way out there, but here’s where it gets interesting. Colin’s father is Jim Cantrell, a rocket scientist. He moved on from Space X and co-founded Vector Space Systems. Vector is building satellites twice the size of a Rubik’s Cube called CubeSats.
So the blockchain in space, it could happen.
Today Nexus is ranked #68 by market cap at $43 million.
This one is certainly interesting, but hard to understand.
There’s plenty of other cryptos I’d rather buy, like STEEM.
