Bad Crypto Podcast: What Don’t You Know About Bitcoin?

Check out Bad Crypto Podcast exploring the question of, "So what do you want to know about bitcoin?"

No, what do you really want to know about bitcoin?

Of course you want to know what it’s going to be worth at the end of next week but there are also all sorts of things that you can know, don’t know and probably should know.

If we were honest with ourselves, we’d all admit that we’re in the same boat. None of us took courses on cryptocurrency. No one buying and selling bitcoins today has a degree in Bitcoinology from the School of Digital Finance. It doesn’t exist.

We’re all self-taught. We all became curious about cryptocurrencies and started reading. We checked blogs and clicked through Wikipedia entries. We listened to podcasts and we picked up the odd book. But there was never anything systematic about the learning process. There was no order to it. We just followed links, adding to our knowledge bit by bit.

So we’ve ended up with gaps. We all have them.

We might have read something about cold storage wallets, wondered what they’re for and assumed we’d find out by the end of the page. But the page assumes we already know so we move on to the article about mining still wondering. When you don’t learn systematically, when you don’t go from Bitcoin 101 to Bitcoin 201 and so on, those gaps form.

That’s one of the reasons that a new podcast about cryptocurrency has turned out to be so valuable.

Broadcast by New York Times bestselling author Joel Comm and marketing technologist Travis Wright, The Bad Crypto Podcast doesn’t just provide more content discussing the newest fork or the latest movement. It follows Comm and Travis as they learn about cryptocurrency themselves. Neither of them is an expert. They’re both learning as they create the podcast so we get to learn with them.

The podcast starts by discussing what bitcoin is, then moves onto the blockchain and mining, and so on. Each episode is about 40 minutes long, which is just about enough to cover a topic in detail without lecturing the listener or losing their attention. (In fact, one of the best things about the podcast is the friendly manner in which the two guys talk. This isn’t some expert making you feel stupid for not quite understanding what to do with ethereum. It’s a couple of fellows making the same mistakes that we all made when we first learned about cryptocurrency.)

For people new to bitcoin and cryptocurrency, the podcast is essential listening. It won’t tell them everything there is to know about the subject but it will take them through the learning process systematically. They’ll learn about each issue in order so that they’re able to build up their knowledge gradually. Most importantly of all, they won’t feel alone. They’ll be learning with a couple of other people in the same position that they’re in, struggling to make sense of it all and having fun in the process.

And for people who are already using bitcoin, it’s a chance to go back, learn again, and fill in some of the gaps in our knowledge.
