King Theoden and Grima, called the Wormtongue - illustrations by Hildebrandt brothers review

Today let's look at the next illustration in the Tolkien calendar by Hildebrandt brothers - King Theoden and Grima, called the Wormtongue.

It seems to me like it's one of the most creepy illustrations created by Hildebrandts. I feel Eowin like a walking dead, to say the truth... Byt may be it's everything about light. Brothers artists said that they imagined the Golden Hall like a huge castle with tiny windows under the ceiling, so all the light on the characters is the reflected light from the floor.

Anyway it seems to me that stone (and the floor is made of stone) can't reflect light that good. It would work if it was metal, polished metal, but with stone it looks kind of strange.

By the way, to me Eowin looks completely diferent from the one on their previous artwork, I'll show it here again to remind:

Completely another girl, and looks much more healthy!:) And here's the reference photo:

About Theoden I feel differently. He must be still under Saruman influence here, and have to look ill or something... But he looks just old. But full of force:) By the way, we also have an opportunity to see a preparation sketch:

The best part it is, right?:)

See you in the next review:)

Thank you for watching:)

Love, Inber
