Cichorium - Cichórium

DSC06951.JPG

This picture depicts the flower of Chicory. This plant, it seems, grows everywhere. On any lawn you can find this plant. And in Moldova and Ukraine, I see Chicory and it gives the impression that I'm everywhere, at home. With close examination, you can see that this flower is beautiful. Only from a distance, these flowers look dull.

Since childhood, I knew that chicory, it's a weather forecaster. If the flowers of chicory are closed, then the weather will not be the best, if the flowers are open, then prepare for a sunny day.

In this, perhaps, there is some truth, but I, many times saw bushes of this plant, on which were flowers and open and closed.

This flower I photographed in very cloudy weather, as you can see, it is open.

Still, from childhood memories, I remember a coffee substitute, which was made from roasted chicory roots. For some reason this drink was called, coffee spike Kolos, if I'm not mistaken. Gray-brown powder, which remotely resembled cheap coffee. In those days, especially there was nothing to choose from, and if there was this drink, then, it was drunk. I definitely tried

I considered this a relic of socialism, but I recently learned that roasted chicory root is added to expensive varieties of coffee to improve taste. That's how the stereotypes are erased. In my understanding, coffee is a taste! But no. In this case, the plant helps, whose root can reach a length of 15 meters, whose blue flowers have become a familiar sight.

I do not know what it is connected with, but, I rarely see bees. It is possible that chicory poorly gives nectar and for bees it is not interesting.
