CHESS BLITZ OF THE DAY
Tournament:
World Blitz Championship 2010, Moscow, Russia
Players:
Hikaru Nakamura
His highest position in the world rankings has been so far No. 5, and remains very popular among tournament organizers thanks to his aggressive style and lively on-the-board behavior. If he stays focused (he's another chess player stung by the poker worm) he has enough potential to challenge the World Champion in the coming decade.
Ian Nepomniachtchi
Born in the same year as Magnus Carlsen and Segey Karjakin, Nepomniachtchi initially had an advantage over their rivals, winning the European Under-10 and Under-12 (twice) and achieving the U-12 World Championship ahead of Magnus Carlsen . He later admitted that success had risen to his head and he lost perspective, allowing his peers to overtake him. However, his talent never disappeared. In 2008 he won the Aeroflot Open, qualifying for the first super-tournament of his career in Dortmund, where he would share second place - half point behind Peter Leko and ahead of Vladimir Kramnik.
