He obtained the title of International Master in 1998 but it was not until years later where, when moving to Madrid to "study" Law in the university finished studying chess and reaching the 2600 in addition to the title of Grand Master.

Back in Germany, he played for the German national team and won the German championships of 2004 and 2005 for years later to play poker, even writing a book with Marcel Luske. In 2008 he again demonstrated that he had not forgotten to play chess and in the super tournament Dortmund finished second working the following year as an analyst of Peter Leko. He was also coach of the Danish team.

In 2009 he joined the all-powerful Baden-Baden to conquer the German league and in 2011 he won the gold in the European team. His best individual performances were in Gibraltar in 2010, where he tied for first place and victory at the Thailand Open in 2011.
