Why @beatitudes8 ?!?

What Does Beatitudes Mean?

During my @papa-pepper Interveiw (HERE) I was asked how we decided on @beatitudes8 as our name. I would love for people to look up the beatitudes themselves in Matthew 5:3-11, but here is the answer to that question.

BeAtitudes means supreme happiness, divine joy, or blessedness.
Which is how we feel here at BeAtitudes Homestead. We are supremely blessed to be able to enjoy our homesteading life style.

From growing our own food to minding fences that keep our live stock safe within the boarders of our small homestead. We feel blessed that we are able to do it. It’s hard work sometimes, but it is the most rewarding feeling at the end of a long day.
When we look across the open meadow and see our animals enjoying the luscious green grass, it's humbling to know they are depending on us to care for them, yet they seem to move about eating as if there is no care in the world, and green grass will last forever. It’s a life style of morning dew glistening on the daily harvest from the garden that we planted with our own hands. Its the sound of the rooster crowing in the morning as if to say "I’m ready to take on the world". It’s the smell of the flower blossoms from the orchard announcing the sweet taste of the fruit that will be enjoyed soon. What a supreme blessedness it is to be able to live the homestead life.

>Beatitude is a possession of all things held to be good, from which nothing is absent that a good desire may want.

  1. "Blessed are the Poor in spirit"

Means to be humble and recognize your need for God. Humility is the realization that all your gifts and blessings come from the grace of God.

2."Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

Mourning in this context is called a blessing, because mourning our sinful nature creates in us a desire to improve ourselves and to do what is right!

3."Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."

A person that is meek is one that exhibits self-control and submit to God's authority.

4."Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

A continuous desire for justice and moral perfection will lead one to a fulfillment of that desire

5."Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."

Show mercy through forgiving and offering kindness and compassion toward others.

6."Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God."

To be pure of heart means to be free of all selfish intentions and self-seeking desires. What a beautiful goal! How many times have any of us performed an act perfectly free of any personal gain?

7."Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God."

Peacemakers not only live peaceful lives but also try to bring peace and friendship to others, and to preserve peace

8."Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."

Stephen, Paul and Jesus were all falsely accused of unrighteousness and suffered martyrdom by an Oppressive government and leaders of their days. May all of us desire righteousness in our beliefs and actions. That we may be rewarded with our kingdom of heaven!

Deu 6:25 And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.’

Isa 51:7 “Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear not the reproach of man, nor be dismayed at their revelings.

1Jn 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

1Jn 3:4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.

2Th_2:9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders

Though we fall short, the 8 beatitudes is how we try and live our life's following the example of our Messiah.
