When it comes to Chinese New Year one of the most common flower for the festival is the Narcissus tazetta, also known as Paperwhite or Chinese sacred lily. Usually we purchase them when they are still in a bulb, and allow them to grow by exposing them into fresh water. We usually do carving on the bulb to induce mechanical damages to the plant so the wounded regions grow slower than unharmed regions, thereby giving interesting shapes of out coming plant.
Yet this photo is not about the shape of the plant, but the flowers of the plant. I hope you guys realize that this is a double pedal layer plant, which is a result of the selective breeding. Normally the nick name for this species of Paperwhite is golden core silver pedal (which is really "fortune" names for the new year) and now we have more golden core and double silver pedal!! This is a new rising strains occupying 1% of the total paperwhite market. This is the art of Chinese culture crossing over science!!
