Shredding was a hyper popular trend that went through the classical music world a few years ago. I'm not sure if it really took off in the modern forms of music. However, this type of humour works incredibly well with Classical music videos, as you can find some particularly pompous and self-important videos to shred!
Keep in mind, this is just a joke! The players that are featured are world-class masters of their profession, but this is just an amusing take on it! It really takes a certain skill to make the videos good.
Pinchas Zukermann
This is one of my favourite shreds. The set up is absolutely genius! Pinchas Zukerman is one of the older superstars of the violin world, his playing is not to my taste, but I have played in an orchestra behind him and he is really quite a great player!
Itzhak Perlman
The skill required to make this video is absolutely mind-blowing. Note that the orchestra is unaffected by the shredding, whilst the "joke" violinist is still someone with a good degree of skill. A contemporary of Zukerman, Itzhak Perlman was to my eyes, the better musician and violinist.
Radek Baborak
Again, a world class player, and completely skillful shredding.
Take a look out for Classical Music shreds, when done well they are the sort of thing that really makes you lose it laughing. The juxtaposition of the hyper "serious" and the moment of release is too good! Remember too much of good thing is not great either!
