Last weekend, I met up with a good friend of mine and had dinner in a very cosy restaurant, Colbert, located in the heart of Sloane Square. The place is inspired by the great boulevard cafés of Paris, accommodating for a wonderful welcoming atmosphere indeed! It was a treat and we both had a fantastic time dining out there.
It was a weekend and this place looked super busy. Though we were delighted when the friendly staff managed to find us a great little table inside within minutes.
The whole place is themed out with a cool art deco vibe. A timeline of past historical events is plastered all over the walls with signed photographs from the world of sports, politics and the silver screen. Even the bathroom interiors have so much to look at, displaying a fine vintage feel all round.
The ambiance was awesome and really buzzing. There was plenty happening inside the restaurant which made it a really lively experience for us. In addition to the service being professional and aptly polished.
The menu was extensive including all the classic "French" favourites. They offer menus starting from breakfast, into lunch and mid-afternoon snacks, finishing up with early evening drinks and a full dinner service. There is also a great selection of wines to choose from.
Both my friend and I were very hungry that night, so skipped the starters to go straight to the main.
I opted for the "Cassoulet de Toulouse", a traditional "French" dish. This menu selection is a slow cooked stew with sausage, pork belly and beans. I was not disappointed as the food was fantastic. Rich and full of flavour!
My friend had the "Grilled Paillard of Corn-Fed Chicken" which was equally as good. It was beautifully presented and all ingredients used looked really fresh!
Although my personal favourite of this place has got to be the luscious desserts!
"Profiteroles with warm chocolate sauce" was one of the best things I've ever had! Those little puff pastry's that were all freshly made, are filled with indulgent fresh cream. Pouring warm chocolate sauce over the profiteroles just before digging into them was like a slice of heaven on earth! Don't you dare miss this one.
We also tried the "Vanilla millefeuille". A well-known French dessert which is also a puff pastry but this time layered with vanilla cream! It’s everything I love most about French pastries, in it's rich and delicate texture and filled with yet more fresh cream! The intertwining flavours marry together in an impressive fashion, providing for that real wow factor!
I really enjoyed my visit at Colbert as it was such a lovely evening out. The food was excellent and service remained consistently good throughout our time there. Maybe a little pricey but consider it is Sloane Square after all! Worth a return visit at the very least, to check out all the other culinary delights the men has to offer.
