Last Saturday morning, I decided to go for some moderately paced jogging with my husband @ezzy in Queen’s Park. Despite the weather being particularly chilly, it was actually quite sunny and pleasant.
On our way back home, we came across Bobs Café just around the corner of the park. It looked like the perfect spot for brunch so we caved in and went for it! Bob’s Café is a cozy little bistro restaurant that I've never had the pleasure of trying before. The big turquoise wooden panel running across the front made everything inside look light and airy.
As soon as I approached the door, we were greeting by a friendly gentleman with a big smile. He was polite and made us feel most welcome. The place was already pretty buzzing on a Saturday at around noon so we had to wait for a bit. Ten minutes in total, which is not bad at all. Seeing so many people in there is most definitely a good sign!
When we finally entered the establishment, the exposed brickwork and hanging plants created a homely vibe and chilled atmosphere. Very comfortable and relaxed. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and professional, as well as the rest of the team who were constantly checking if everything was to our liking.
Let’s start with the drinks. The coffee here was amazing. I would pay a visit here just for a quick latte takeaway, lol.
We also had a smoothie called Green Day, which is a blended mix consisting of spinach, apple, lemon, kale and coconut water. It certainly looked healthy and tasted super fresh!
The menu is seasonal, currently offering modern American-French cooking. The choice for mains is varied and caters for most pallets and budgets. It includes light snacks as well as more substantial full meals.
The food served at other patrons tables certainly looked the part. Portions were quite generous. The only criticism being we were left waiting around 45 minutes for our food to arrive.
We ordered some Korean-styled BBQ Chicken Wings with watercress salad to share. Neither American or French I grant you, but proved to be a tasty starter, lol.
@ezzy ordered the Steak Frites with fries and this was amazing! It was a thinly beaten out "minute steak" that was cooked perfectly and each slice being a rich, deep shade of pink and well seasoned. The garlic & herb butter melting over the meat just added that final wonderful touch! @ezzy was most impressed, as was I!
I had the Egg Royal which is my usual lazy brunch and probably one of my favourite western breakfasts of choice. It comes with smoked salmon, avocado, soft poached eggs, toasted challah roll and herby hollandaise. The poached eggs were prepared well with that creamy hollandaise sauce, the taste, textures and colours, all went together beautifully. I was in food heaven!
Sadly, we had so much food, there is no room for dessert, lol. There is always next time though…
Bob’s Café is most likely not the kind of place for a fancy dinner of sorts, but definitely a great option for a delicious brunch or catch up with friends and family. A lovely local eatery with fresh produce. Food was nice and pretty reasonably priced.
Apart from Queen’s Park, Bob’s Café actually has another two branches in Ealing and Muswell Hill. So if you are ever in those areas, do not miss the opportunity for some great tasting coffee and lovely food, lol! Without a doubt, I will be back soon.
