Does your name matter?

Working in Asia, sometime you often bump into people with some really funny English names. Today I found out there is someone named "Scar", the first moment I heard about this name, I do not want to have anything to do with him because I am afraid he could hurt me. But this is not a rare example as there are plenty interest names I have encountered before: "Koala", "Coffee", Yellow", "Never" and you name it.

As a kid, we were taught that it is essential to have a very good first impression. It has a lot to do with your look but what about your name?

Having the question in my head, I turned to Google.com and there are some evidence supporting your name may affect your personality and your first impression.

  • In 2005, there is a study found that boys who had girls names were more likely to have behavior problems and do relatively poor in school.
  • In 2004, there is a study suggesting employer is more likely to call job applicants with "white" sounding names as opposed to "black" sounding names.

And the list can go on.

Psychologist tried to explain the issue further suggesting it is not the actual name itself that affect how people treat you but people learn about there is a reason for you to take the "name" and therefore will Pre-judge you before seeing you in person.

Your face, your fate"

Ofcourse, unless you look like this.
