Here is my finished piece " The Spirit of Liquid Time" for #CollaborativeArtJourney "Wrinkle in Time" contest sponsored by the wonderful @everlove.
And here is the full size view:
For this contest we were to take @everlove wonderful image which is here:
And I took the image and flipped it horizontally counter clockwise to get this:
In my original sketch which I posted about here I showed how I saw the right side of the image as a mermaid's tail and the left the green of the mermaid body.
This was the sketch idea for it:
And a cut out bit of the drawing to show where I saw the mermaid existing in the image.
I then did a watercolour study of it (notice the tail had not been done yet, as I hadn't decided now much tail and how much of the original image to maintain)
And then, of course again, the finished piece painted in digital oil with the tail. I decided to highlight some of the original movement of the image as part of the tail and to let the rest of the detailed light in the image blur into brushstrokes in the background. Wanting the focus on the face hands and tail of the creature.
This contest fit into a series of works I am doing in which the female form takes a role Spirit or Myth. As this was meant to be a "wrinkle in time" and I say it as a mermaid I figured a spirit of "Liquid Time" sort of played on that being with the ability to come and go in Time and as it is a fluid state she chose the form of the mermaid to easily 'swim throughout Time".
