This is my fun-creation with Gimp and GiftedMotion - of course, under Ubuntu Linux!

I used some of my pictures as layers: a butterfly, a fractal and a photo of winter trees taken yesterday. The original photo of @everlove is in the background.

This is my butterfly in PNG, background deleted:

This is my fractal image, rendered with JWildfire:

This is my photo of trees:

First, i combined it with my fractal, the unneccessary parts were rubbed in Gimp:

Then desaturated, and put a butterfly on them:

Saturated again, with the butterfly:

Desaturated again (instead of the butterfly), then copied a new layer of the forest (inverted), under the butterfly layer:

The last phase was the easiest with GiftedMotion, it took only some seconds to interlace the pictures in one gif.
