Here is my entry for the current "Collaborative Art Journey" submitted by @Everlove. I got a little bit of a late start on this one because I was out of town - playing at the beach!
When I first saw @Everlove's photo (below), I thought perhaps it was a photo of roots from a potted plant that had become too root-bound and had attached to whatever the surface was under their pot - like I used to see all the time when I worked at a nursery. Stuck roots.
I started seeing shapes in there - mostly sections of spider web. I thought I'd re-construct a complete circular spider web, using part of the photo. But, as I started isolating the image from the background, it started looking more like sea foam/ocean water. And one area at the top started looking like a starry sky. I replaced the background with blue colors and cropped it to the areas I liked best.
Once I had the background done, I decided it needed a tall ship - The Europa, of course! After sailing on the Europa in 2005, I tend to add that ship in wherever I can!
I thought that perhaps I'd be able to utilize a painting I did with The Europa in as a "Ship in a Bottle" - in the past.
But, it didn't really cooperate or seem to work well with @Everlove's image. So, I decided to find an image online (Google Images).
I isolated the ship (best I could) and stuck it in there. Voila!
Here is another post about my trip aboard The Europa. It was so fun!
