Taking College Coursework Seriously. Especially Exams!

During my college life, I always had this concern on how to manage my time when it terms on studying and as the same time working. I find it hard to maintain my grades that time. And what really affects on my grades, are my midterm and final exams outcome, my projects, and assignments. In this article, I want to share to you how important college exams(which I will be focusing the most) and courseworks are and what are those good habits and styles in studying that will help you attain good grades. Even though some of you here had finished studying, you can share this to others.

COLLEGE, THE STRUGGLE IS REAL

Midterm and final exams can often be a stressful time for college students, but taking these projects and exams seriously is very important.

Midterm and final exam periods can be very stressful for students, especially for students with heavy course schedules. With projects, papers, and big exams for most classes often being crammed within a one or two week time period, students may feel the urge to have a mental and academic melt down before midterms and finals are over.

However, it is extremely important for students to stay on task and do well during midterm and final exams. These projects, papers, and exams are often worth a large portion of a student's grade, and doing poorly and creating a bad habit of doing poorly during these exam times can have a very negative impact on a student's academic record and opportunities after college.

WHY COLLEGE MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAMS ARE IMPORTANT

Most importantly, professors and instructors often heavily weigh midterm and final exams, projects and papers because they are intended to synthesize or cover a large amount of material learned throughout the course up until the time of the assignment.

When projects, exams, and papers are heavily weighed, one grade can seriously impact a student's final grade in the course.
Not only can an average to low grade in a course impact a student's overall GPA, but may also require a student to retake the course due to college or university requirements, which can lead to major alterations in a student's degree plan and possibly adding extra time to a student's college career.

In addition to adding time and repeated courses, poor grades for courses in a student's major or minor may impact job and scholarship opportunities and jeopardize getting into graduate, medical, or law school.

PREPARING FOR COLLEGE MIDTERM AND FINAL EXAMS

Time management is extremely important when preparing for midterm and final exams, especially if a student has a heavy course schedule, multiple projects for multiple classes, or has to balance other obligations in addition to coursework.

A student should make a list of obligations, such as class, work, meetings, and family events, on one piece of paper and make a list of what is due on another. Break down each project into stages, and plot everything on a large calendar with plenty of writing space. Be reasonable with scheduling paper drafts and study sessions; over scheduling can lead to a midterm or final exam meltdown, whereas under scheduling may cause a student to have to rush to finish everything at the last minute.

There are also several other ways for student to effectively use midterm and final exam times without creating a hectic schedule:

  • Pull the plug of distractions. When studying or working on school work, pull the plug on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, social media, and the cell phone. Eliminate electronic distractions that coexist on the internet and use the time usually spent checking email writing a paper.

  • Turn off the television. There are many people who can study well with background noise, like me I enjoy in company of music while studying. But, the television adds lights and pictures to background noise, making it another great distraction from projects. If students absolutely have to have noise in order to study properly, they can create a playlist of favorite songs and play that in the background while studying.

  • Study with a student's learning style. Everyone learns in a slightly different way. When studying for an exam or trying to grasp a concept for a presentation, students should find the way that they learn best and use that to their advantage. Visual learners can use flashcards and flow charts to memorize and graph concepts, while hands-on learners may need to use objects around the room to demonstrate or act out material.

Actually, there are a lot of ways there on how to improve your study styles and habits. I only come up on 3 summarized and straight forward tips that I strongly used when I was still studying. During my time as a teacher and a tutor, I always give my students some good advices and tips in studying.
