Epcot Center at Night, Walt Disney World Florida - ColorChallenge PurpleSunday

This past January we traveled up to Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, just after New Years. Surprisingly, the parks are not as crowded as you would think at that time and we were able to spend a full day at Magic Kingdom and a full day at Epcot Center.

For those of you who have been following me for a while and know me already, you know I like to find patterns in shapes, colors, and abstract effects created by light. One of my favorite objects to photograph at night at Disney is the iconic "Spaceship Earth" at the Epcot resort. At night the structure is usually illuminated in a soft blue color, but for the first time I got to see it in a different color. It was a beautiful transition from a warm pink to deep purple. Something I could not resist photographing.

A Little Background on its Design

It's design was created with the help of science fiction writer Ray Bradbury and is based on the work of Buckminster Fuller, who is recognized for his work in developing geodesic domes and a spherical molecular carbon structure named after him called a Buckminsterfullerene - or Buckyball for short.

I have been a fan of this type of building structure for as long as I can remember. I used to read about his work in Popular Science magazine as it pertains to future habitat structures on the Moon, Mars, and here on earth for Biodomes.

The previous two photos were taken using the HDR setting on my Nikon. That takes 2 photos in rapid succession and compiles them to increase the contrasts at night. You have to use a tripod or keep steady for it to work perfectly, that's why there is a bit of ghosting on the second picture. Even your pulse is enough to move the alignment of the shots.
