I recently explained how rocks get their color, and that is exactly how this beautiful purple amethyst came to be! When rocks grow into a shape as this, with a natural point on top, they are called crystals. This amethyst crystal is part of my mineral collection.
This is another entry in the ColorChallenge which @kalemandra began. It's been such fun participating in it each day since I've been here!
