Projects I'm excited about, for January and Beyond!

So, "what is Theresa up to this month" you didn't ask. Well, I'll tell you!

Stranger Things Zine

I'm really excited to announce that I'll be part of an upcoming Stranger Things fanzine, with all of the proceeds going to charity. I'll be submitting the first sketch of my illustration by the end of this month. And you can bet your bottom dollar I won't be starting that sketch till the very last minute. I think I have about three months to complete the illustration, which is plenty of time to get one piece done (and plenty of time to procrastinate).

In all seriousness, I'm very honored to part of this project and there is a lot of talent going into this zine. Make sure to check them out on social media to see the list of amazing artists participating:

Storyboarding

Definitely one of the biggest projects I'm working on this month is for a blood analysis company; I have to illustrate two stories that will ultimately be animated for their company event. So far, I've had to do a butt-ton of storyboards, which is something that I actually really enjoy doing and is the type of project I would like to be mostly doing in the future. I don't think I'm allowed to share any of the work until the project is done but I can tell you that one of the stories has cowboys in it and the other is a parody of Law & Order, so pretty interesting stuff.

One of the frames I had to draw featured a newspaper with a headline having to do with your standard Trump-ism and I had a little box under the headline open for a spot illustration. I was very, very tempted to squeeze in a tiny caricature of the Cheeto-In-Chief but obviously, I couldn't as that's not what the client asked for... but I still drew him to get it out of my system.

New Story In The Works

Lastly, what I'll be working on in the upcoming months is my own personal story; it's set in the mid-1800s, following the life of an immigrant working as a house servant as she uses the spiritualist movement to break free of the societal expectations of that time. Victorian Era + Spiritualism...for any of those following my posts on here, this should be of no shock to you.

I was telling @drwatson awhile ago that I felt guilty for doing another story set in the 1800s, but I just couldn't get enough of it! Plus Ithaqa is giving me my roaring 20s fill, so...

These are the thumbnails for the first six pages of the story; I don't believe I've shared what my thumbnails look like with you guys yet but here they are. Behold them in all their glory. These are very, very tiny drawings that serve as my map for when I want to start roughing out the pages. It's pretty hard for anyone other than me to know what's going on within these chicken-scratch drawings which is why when I show people who've hired me to draw comics my thumbnails, they usually have tons of notes to clue them in on what is actually going on.

I also have in my sketchbook some larger, slightly more readable doodles of more important panels that I could see myself having difficulty executing.

My goal for this project is to study the works Alex Toth and Becky Cloonan so much that I end up absorbing their powers. I mean talent!

Outfit Sketches

A character sketch where I was trying to figure out what shapes I'm going to use to make up this character's appearance.

Bonus Drawing!

My boyfriend asked me to color in my Trump doodle so here it is in it's orangey glory:

Ending Questions

  1. Do you guys have any upcoming projects or events that you're excited for?
  2. What's your favorite time period? (aesthetically...not morally)
  3. Preferred season of Stranger Things: 1 or 2?

I've been illustrating a Lovecraftian horror series, [Ithaqa](ithaqacomic.com), created by [@drwatson](https://steemit.com/@drwatson) who has been writing about the series on his Steemit account, so be sure to check his posts out. Hopefully, I'll be starting Issue 3 in the very near future!
