Typically, around once a day, my iPad needs charging. This is due largely to my inability to remember to plug it in when I go to sleep. While annoying, as it always seems to happen when I’m in the middle of a solid creative flow, it does allow me to pick up my pencil and paper and get back to tactile sketching. Lately, I’ve been sketching out some Marvel characters. The other day, I decided on Storm.
The pencil sketch; I always dug the mohawk look for Storm. I decided to bring a bit of an 80s punk rock look to the rest of the design.
I kept the inking petty sparse on this piece. I like the mostly clean but slightly textured look for this, a bit like the Michael Turner style linework, or even a bit of Cappulo. I usually offer these sketches for sale at the pencil stage, given the potential buyer the choice to get it inked.
Once the drawing was delivered to the client, I decided to color the photo I took of the drawing, for an example of the commission options I’m offering. I tried to reinforce the 80s feel with the color scheme.
Thanks for checking it out!
