I am very excited to write this story post. I just got off the phone from Nigeria with a representative from Jumia.com to make sure the order went through for a package of cinnamon for #OperationMosquito. I was assured it did!
I will be posting a story either later or tomorrow about #OperationMosquito for a more in-depth idea of what it is. Short answer: It's a package to help prevent Malaria.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS: A TEST PACKAGE IS BEING SENT FROM A NIGERIAN E-COMMERCE SITE USING MY UNITED STATES REGISTERED BITPAY CARD FUNDED BY STEEM! This was the first transaction ever used on the card and I am happy to say it worked. My second transaction was to pay for some google voice time because I needed to call Nigeria!
You can stop reading here if you don't want a walk through of how to accomplish sending packages. This took hours of research and time to accomplish and I wanted to share with the community, in case there are other Steemians who may want to help out a fellow Steemian from Nigeria their self. If you want to help but don't have the time or patience, I will be putting out a post about #OperationMosquito later today or tomorrow and you can help out with an upvote or donation.
FYI: I was informed by @stellabelle there is an e-commerce site( @shopnowng) that will be launching soon. They are HERE ON STEEMIT. The site will enable direct payment by Bitcoin. This service will more than likely be utilized at a later date.
THE WALK THROUGH FOR JAMIA.COM
First go to Jumia.com and sign up. USE THE NAME ON THE CARD YOU WILL PAY WITH.
An Email will be sent to the provided email address. IT IS NOT A CONFIRMATION LINK. This is included so you know that the correct email address was registered. You want to make sure the proper email is registered because you will have order confirmations sent to this address.
Search for the product you are looking for and click "Buy Now". There is a Jumia Global Option for items sent from Overseas but I was surprised to see the shipping for the product selected was nowhere as expensive as shipping from the United States even when using the Global option. Just remember there is a Jumia Local Option and a Jumia Global Option depending on the item selected.
After Selecting "Buy Now", you will see the below screen. Select "Checkout" or your cart icon if you are finished selecting items for your order.
This will go to your cart. Notice it says SUBTOTAL. Your shipping charges are not on this screen. Select "Proceed to Checkout".
This next step is very important. You will need to input the Nigerian address AND Nigerian phone number of the person you will be sending to. I had a little trouble with the phone number and the email response is below in the picture. You do not need to include the 234 area code. This will produce an error message. You must, however, put a 0 in front of the number that does not include the area code. Also, put in the person's name who will be receiving the package. Click "Save and Continue".
This next screen is where you see the shipping charges. If you notice there is an option for a "Pick-Up Station". The site has locations for people to pick up their packages. The option I am using delivers directly to the door. More information for pick up locations can be found here. If you choose a pickup location there will be options brought up on the screen with varying shipping charges. Some people may want to use this option depending on where they live. Select "Save and Continue" to move on to next screen.
On this screen, you will confirm your order. Select Master Card/Visa/Verve to pay with your card. Remember, I used my BitPay Card to complete this transaction. I don't know if this allowed the transaction to go through, because nowhere did I input my billing address. Select "Confirm Order" To proceed to payment screen. You will be directed to a third party site.
Your name that is on the card you will pay with should be here. Input your payment information and a screen will appear with your confirmation order. I would advise you write this down. Additionally, the confirmation will be sent to the provided email.
FYI: Jumia does have tracking that you can check on their site. Click "My Orders" and "Check Status". Also, if you make it all the way to the payment screen and don't complete the order, an order number will still be received on the orders screen. The phone number registered will also receive an "Order Failed" message.
I hope this helped. After hours of trying and failing to figure this out, it's finally been accomplished. Now I need to to go and finish the list for #OperationMosquito. Please share with others who may be helped by this information.
