Snowpocalypse Survival Challenge Final Day! Who Survived?

It has been quite the week! A severe winter storm blew into town, dumping mad amounts of snow and paralyzed the region. Your partner never arrives home and electricity is severed.

You hole up in one room to conserve heat, knowing you cannot bring your outside grill in or risk a quick death from the odorless fumes.

You finally made contact briefly the next day and set off to rescue your snowbound partner. After your truck gets immobily stuck in the snow you get caught in an avalanche and then find yourself lost down a mountain and facing the elements with little gear.

Against all odds you find your frostbitten partner as you are climbing back up the mountain, but then they fall through the ice of a lake that was hidden by the avalanche debris.

What a week!

You are a true survivor!

Or a zombie, but my zombies are still traversing the frozen wilderness ;)

Your partner has fallen through the ice. What you do next can mean the difference between life and death.

If you chose Option 1 you stood at the edge of the ice and held your belt for your partner to grab. The ice under you broke from the combined weight and you joined your partner. You both died quickly.

If you chose Option 2 you crawled then shimmied onto your belly to the edge. This was a better option than standing. You reach your arms out and your panicked partner grabs ahold, then pulls you into the frozen abyss as you have nothing to grab a hold of for leverage. You both die quickly.

If you choose Option 3 you instruct them to calm and take slow deep breaths. You help count, in one, two, three, out one, two three. You instruct them to swim to where they fell through and spread their elbows to bring themselves above the ice. Your heart is wrenching, you can’t stand seeing your partner suffer, but you know this must be carefully choreographed.

You know if you go to them the combined weight of them, their now waterlogged clothing, and you will likely break the ice and then you’re screwed.

You instructed them to where they fell in because you know that ice was strong enough to hold their weight up until the point they fell in. As you are calming and instructing your partner, you quickly gather a couple long branches you had just taken from a tree with intentions of feeding the fire.

Your partner is stabilized, arms spread wide on the ice and no longer flailing. You wrap your belt around a tree trunk and grab hold of it with one hand, and reach a long sturdy branch out. It reaches! Your partner grabs hold and you hoist them out.

You remove their clothing and quickly arrange by the fire. You lay the emergency blanket on the snow by the fire, have them lay on it, remove your clothing and lay chest to chest so your body can warm them, and arrange the remainder of your clothes and jacket to surround you.

You fire the flare gun straight up. You know you should use it only when you hear rescue nearby, but in this extenuating life and death circumstance you are desperate. You are fortunate as a hunter who is holed up in their cabin down the mountain sees the smoke from your fire and then the flare and knows something is wrong so drives their snowmobile out and rescues you both within the hour.
