"I understand a fury in your words..."
-Desdemona to Othello
"When angry, count four. When very angry, swear."
-Mark Twain
"Better out than in, I always say."
-Shrek
Guernica by Picasso
Are your words weapons?
Do they slice, rip, or squeeze? Do they drip with wrath and Rage?
I get it. We're all nice, accepting, tolerant, virtuous, blah blah blah... But we're human, and being a human being means being all of being human (confused myself a little there), which includes occasionally, some less-virtuous traits.
Of these less virtuous traits, anger is the most fun.
Show Me Your Anger
Are you ever so angry that only symbols will suffice? Then this poetry contest is for you. Are you ever so infuriated that you simply want to drag your reader through a trench of verbal discomfort just so they can get the tiniest idea of your anger? In that case, my friend, you are most welcome here.
The Scream by Edvard Munch
Come on. Show me how mad you are. We're all pissed off about plenty of things, and there needs to be a forum where anger is welcomed as more than complaints and whining.
I invite you all to make this that forum, using the artistic umbrella of poetry as your protection. I intend to reward your anger with prizes. I promise to judge your work not on your opinions, but on perceived anger and writing skill (in that order). I cannot however make the same promise for all the other Steemians, so choose your words carefully. It is a blockchain, after all. No takesies-backsies!
To Enter
- Ball up that anger into a scathing mass of word art (poem) and write it down. It needs to be at least 20 words, and I like rhyming. Rhyming is not required, but I like it. No form requirements.
- Share your poem in the comments of this post. (Feel free to make a post of your own, but I understand if you don't want your friends to see this one.)
- Upvote my post. Resteeming is preferred as well, but not required. I encourage you after posting to continue coming back to this post to read and curate the entries of others. The best thing about contests is meeting new friends!
Prizes
The prize pool for this contest will start at 10 SBD, provided by yours truly. Depending on the number of entries, the prize pool may increase!
Deadline
I'm going to run this contest for two weeks. The deadline will be announced in a later post. Stay tuned for updates.
One more thing before I go. I'd like to share my own angry poem with you. This poem is basically what inspired me to hold this contest, and now I have a place to share it. I present...
Evil Bastards
To all the Evil Bastards
In their towers, on their hills,
From their secret legislations,
To their evil laws and bills,
Who are bending sovereign nations
To their evil little wills:
I hope you drown in all the blood
Your endless conflict spills.
Phew. Feels good. Now let's get that anger processed through your system, distilled into a poem and placed carefully in the comments of this post, where it belongs!
